Learn how to assist adolescents (aged 12 - 18) who are developing a mental illness, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
This Youth Mental Health First Aid Course is for adults who work, live or care for adolescents, such as school staff, parents, sports coaches, community group leaders and youth workers.
This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.
Developing Mental health problems covered:
• Anxiety problems
• Substance use problems
• Eating Disorders
Mental health crises situations covered:
• Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
• Non-suicidal self-injury
• Panic attacks
• Traumatic events
• Severe psychotic states
• Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
• Aggressive behaviours.
This course is offered in a blended format consisting of a self-paced eLearning module (about 4 hours) and an instructor-led component (which will be delivered face to face) on Tuesday 16th November. A hard copy manual will also be included in this course which you will take home with you.
After registration is confirmed, you will receive more information about how to access the online learning. This part of the training MUST be completed prior to the face to face session.
